Open SuSE

 OpenSuSE

OpenSuSE is a general purpose Operating System built on top of the Linux Kernel, developed by the community-supported Open SuSE Project and sponsored by Novell.
Note: The initial release of the community project was a beta version of SuSE Linux 10.0, and as of March 10,2011 the current stable release is Open SuSE 11.4.

YaST Control Center

SuSE includes an installation and administrator program called YaST which handles hard disk partitioning, system setup, RPM package management, online, network and firewall configuration, user administrator  and more in an integrated interface. YaST also integrates with SaX2 to phlp users handle their graphics card and monitor, touch displays, and even additional monitors with Xinerama. In more recent times, many more YaST modules have been added, including one for Bluetooth upport.

Version History

The Open SuSE project aims to release a new version every eight months. It support each release with critical updates for two years from the release date. Starting with version 11.2, critical updates will be provided for two release plus two months, which at the current release cycle of 8 months would result in a support lifetime of 18 months.
